The Story of AnnaLisa….
I recently attended the “Celebration of Life” service for a dear friend of mine. She was a dear friend for many reasons, but one reason being that she was one of the friends who really introduced me to scrapbooking and putting journaling with my photos back in 1996. And she started me straight with CM products and crops. (Which I am grateful for!) At that time, she was finishing her first cancer battle as a young mom of three in her thirties.
As our friendship grew and she won that first battle, our albums and stories grew. She recorded her stories for her children to have when she might not make it one day. She had seen “the bigger picture.” While she didn’t have a whole lot of “disposable income” (and who does these days), she never let that deter her. She was slow and steady, but forged ahead. She showed me that bigger picture, as well. I began recording my stories for the future, too.
A few short years passed and she endured another cancer battle, this time removing one of her lungs. I shopped with her for hats when we thought she would lose her hair, which she never did, and took her to chemo treatments. Our scrapbooks grew more, although hers grew slowly during some years.
Our lives moved on and 13 years later she met with her third and final cancer battle, this time in her other lung. When I found out that she passed away, only at 46, one of my first thoughts was “Oh yeah, her boys have those albums she made, they will never forget how much she loved them!” While at her service, just my personal knowledge of what she did, how hard she fought, how she impacted lives, what she journaled and made for her 13 year old son and older boys, she would always be present in their lives… and mine. She impacted my life in such a small way, then, and such a big way now. Things became "full circle."
I never really liked the term “scrapbooking.” It’s not scraps of our lives being pieced together. I teach others the value in how a book can impact and alter their lives.
While I am joyful AnnaLisa is no longer in pain, and I know she will be dearly missed by many, I find comfort in knowing that she left a legacy behind for her children to read and cherish as they grow into adulthood. She left something that they can hold on to and KNOW, read, see and feel her in those books and photos. One day too, probably much more sooner than many of us, will those young boys will realize the priceless gift she created for them in her albums.
THANK YOU for supporting my business. I LOVE what I do. And even in today’s world with our overscheduled lives, tight budgets and thousands of images on our computers, I believe that celebrating memories and telling our stories makes a difference. Small stories, big stories, lifetimes of stories or even the memories of one event are worth sharing and celebrating.
As a mother of 2, I understand how the everyday busy-ness can get overwhelming. But I believe in the value of taking care of the digital images that we found worth taking in the first place. I love helping others with their stories and photos. I believe in the power of memories and how they can uplift and validate our lives. Thank you for being a part of Creative Memories with me.
